0:00 – Intro
1:11 – What is Syfe?
Syfe was founded in 2017, then launched in Singapore in 2019. The founder, Mr Arora realized that not many people know how to invest in ETFs, and they would rather keep their money in the bank. So Syfe was founded in order to help people invest and teach people how to invest.
Syfe has their own algorithm which helps you manage your investments, called Automated Risk Managed Investment Strategy (ARI). ARI automatically adjusts your portfolio so that you will get the best possible returns at any time.
3:16 – Equity100 portfolio
This portfolio invests in equity etfs, and uses Smart Beta strategy to give you the best returns depending on market conditions. If you want to have a high return, then this portfolio is good for you. That’s because studies have shown that if you invest in 100% equity, you will get the highest returns over the long term.
4:38 – Global ARI portfolio
This portfolio uses the ARI strategy mentioned just now. It will help you rebalance your portfolio to reduce downside and increase upside. In this portfolio, you can choose your downside risk, anywhere between 5% to 25%. Base on what you choose, your portfolio composition will change. This portfolio is good for you if your risk tolerance is not high. Like when market is crashing, you prefer your portfolio to not crash as much. Because when the portfolio is diversified to other asset classes, it will give you some protection when times are bad.
5:47 – Reit+ portfolio
This portfolio consists of Singapore REITs. You are able add a risk management component. Doing so, you will have 51% REITs and 49% bonds. As with any REITs, the reason you invest in this portfolio is to receive passive income in the form of dividends.
7:00 – Cash+ portfolio
This portfolio gives 1.75%. There’s no limit to how much you can put in, no lock ups and no management fees. Treat this portfolio as a savings account, rather than an investment account.
8:20 – Core portfolios
There are 3 portfolios in this category, core growth that’s focusing more on equity, core defensive focusing on bonds and core balance that’s somewhere in between. For core portfolios, the asset allocation is more stable. While for Global ARI, the portfolio asset allocation will change drastically to reduce volatility as much as possible. If you prefer a stable portfolio, choose Global ARI. And if you prefer dollar cost average and don’t mind volatility, core portfolios is the way to go. Core portfolios also invest more in China and China Tech.
10:10 – Pricing
There’s no fee for Cash+. For everything else, the fees start at 0.65% to 0.4%. This makes Syfe one of the cheapest among all the other RoboAdvisors.
10:53 – Are your assets safe in Syfe?
They are safe because they are kept separately in a custodian account. In case Syfe closes, they will transfer your assets to another fund manager or return your assets to you.
11:34 – What I like
Syfe has one of the lowest fees out there, and they have alot of portfolios for you to choose from.
12:06 – What I don’t like
For new investors, having too many portfolios may be confusing. It would be good if Syfe can help users decide which portfolio is good for them.
You are unable to invest using your CPF or SRS in Syfe. But I feel this option will be available in the future.
